Air brakes, by the book

Run the air check.

The five-step air brake check from the CDL manual, on a working gauge. Tap a step and watch what a healthy system does.

  1. At fast idle, a dual air system should climb from 85 to 100 psi in about 45 seconds.

  2. The compressor should stop pumping around 125 psi, then cut back in around 100 psi as you use air.

  3. Engine off, brakes released: lose under 2 psi in a minute on a straight truck, under 3 on a combination. Brake held down: under 3 and 4.

  4. Fan the brakes down. The low-air warning should come on before the gauge drops below 60 psi.

  5. Keep fanning. The parking brake and trailer air supply knobs should pop out between 20 and 45 psi.

Drivers we’ve put back on the road.

Marc is a reliable and honest person to do business with. I was stuck on the road for 4 hours until I called him and he was able to get me back on the road as soon as possible. Called him back for a follow up inspection on another truck and was able to fix it and hasn’t given me additional problems since.

Excellent Mechanic who really knows his stuff. If he can’t figure it out, no one can. Friendly, extremely competent and just the man you’re looking for no matter how large or small the job is.

Straight answers

Questions drivers ask first.

Do you come to me, or do I bring the truck in?

We come to you. Dash Power Workz is a mobile service: roadside, at your yard, at a dock or at a truck stop anywhere in Miami-Dade and Broward.

Are you really open at night and on weekends?

Yes. We’re open 24 hours a day, every day of the week. Call (909) 993-3970 any time.

What do you work on?

Diesel trucks and tractors, and the trailers behind them: engines and fuel systems, diagnostics, brakes and air, electrical, DPF, DEF and NOx, plus oil changes, PM service and DOT inspections.

What should I have ready when I call?

Your location (exit, mile marker or cross street), the truck make and engine if you know them, any fault codes or lights on the dash, and what happened right before it quit.

How much does a road call cost?

It depends on the problem and where the truck is. Call with your location and what the truck is doing, and ask whatever you need to ask before we roll.
